I grew up in the mountains of Colorado bearing an active lifestyle and participating in a wide variety of outdoor ventures and team sports; specializing in basketball and volleyball and soccer. I played Division 1 volleyball my freshman year at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and finished school at Colorado State University. I found CrossFit in 2010 as a new refreshing outlet to my regular training routine and was immediately hooked. For me, it was a new challenge that was effective, stimulating, and just plain fun. Throughout my life, I have valued fitness from not only a performance perspective, but for the purpose of well-being, longevity, injury prevention, and overall health.
At the time I was only a sophomore in college with an “undeclared” degree, but after finding CrossFit, my passion for health and fitness surfaced and I instantaneously declared and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University in Health and Exercise Science. I earned my first CrossFit Level 1 certification spring of 2011 and immediately began coaching and immersing myself in the world of health and fitness. I then moved to Jackson, Wyoming to complete an internship at Mountain Athlete under Rob Shaul where I met my boyfriend and co-owner of Targhee Athletics Joshua Rempel. Shortly after completing my internship, I had the opportunity to become the head coach and programmer for CrossFit Jackson Hole. In 2013 Joshua Rempel and I decided to share our passion with Teton Valley, Idaho and opened Targhee Athletics in October of 2013.
When not in the gym you will find me dirt biking.
My passion for health and fitness continues to grow. Witnessing the continuous changes Targhee Athletics can produce in people’s health, well-being, confidence, and overall fitness, I am exceedingly excited to share it with Teton Valley.

I have been involved in sports and outdoor pursuits all my life. I was introduced to the idea of high-intensity gym training from an Outside magazine article covering Gym Jones in Salt Lake City, Utah. At the end of the article, there was a list of similar gyms throughout the U.S., and Mountain Athlete in Jackson Hole, Wyoming was one. In 2009, I contacted Rob Shual, and halfway through my first session, realized how unfit I truly was. I trained at Mountain Athlete up until the beginning of 2012, when I made the shift to train sport-specifically for CrossFit. You can become good at CrossFit in a few months, but it takes years of dedication to become great. Through my journey of self-improvement, I have gained an amazing amount of knowledge from the athletes and coaches that I have had the privilege to meet, learn from, and train with. For my own personal goals, performance is the driving factor. But I am very passionate about helping those who want to improve their life-long fitness.

As a child growing up in Rochester, New York, Char O’Brien spent her weekends and summers in the nearby Adirondack Mountains. She has always found the outdoors to be relaxing and re-energizing. In her youth, she played competitive soccer and found a true love for the team environment. Moving to Teton Valley in 1996, she discovered mountain biking, hiking and skiing on a whole new level; it has become an essential part of her everyday life.
Char and her husband, Steve, and their children Tanner and Izzy, find themselves busy with their sports, work and leisure time. They can often be found outside or in the woods camping, and bike riding and exploring the trails together.
Over the past 20 years Char was a Love and Logic instructor, taught children with disabilities and assisted people of all ages. She finds the gym a grounding place of relief, joy and fun.
In an effort to help others live a healthy life, Char calls upon her extensive experiences at other gyms.
“It is a privilege to be a coach at Targhee Athletics. Josh and Dayne are both amazing and have their hearts invested in their business. With a true love for athletics and the people of our community, they make Targhee Athletics an amazing place to work - and workout.”
Char currently works at the Alta School as Paraprofessional and Librarian, and as a coach at Targhee Athletics.

I was born in Tacoma, Washington, but my family moved to Holbrook, Idaho when I was 3 month old where I was raised on a ranch. 4th of 7 siblings, I was taught to work hard and never give up on the things you love most in life. My love for the outdoors started when I was young, I was outdoors whenever possible, horseback riding, working with farm animals, camping, hiking and playing in the water, that love has only increased as I’ve gotten older. I was involved in volleyball, basketball, track, drill team and cheerleading in my high school years.
I worked in Jackson the summer of 1991, this is where I met my future husband, Joe. I attended the American Institute of Medical-Dental Technology, of Provo, UT, where I received my certification in Dental Assisting. After graduation I made my way back to Teton Valley and the love of my life. We were married in the fall of 1992. We have 4 grown children, Wyatt, Whitley, Morgan & Monte, along with a daughter-in-law, Aubri. As a family we love to be outdoors together, horseback riding, hunting, fishing and camping.
I was introduced to CrossFit the fall of 2012, by Teton High School wrestling coach, Coach Schumacher. I quickly fell in love with this sport! My love for this sport and for overall good health has grown to be a great passion of mine, thanks to the many great coaches I have been privileged to have. Life’s star finally aligned and I was able to take my passion to the next level as I completed the CrossFit Level 1 Certificate Course the spring of 2018. I find great joy in seeing others find their path to better health and fitness!
I currently work at the Alta Elementary School as a Secretary & Paraprofessional, at Beard Outfitters & Ranch, along with my husband, Greenspace Landscaping & Targhee Athletics. It's a great privilege to join the amazing coaching staff at Targhee Athletics!

I grew up in Tampa, Florida where my life revolved around competitive cheerleading from age five. After high school, I continued my athletic career at the University of Louisville, and it was there where I was initially introduced to CrossFit, in name only. Some of my teammates participated, but it wasn’t in the cards for me at that point. Once I finished my undergrad degree, I moved to Scotland to complete a master’s degree. With the end of my eighteen-year athletic career now a reality, I had a tough time exercising in any capacity. Investing so much of my life into a sport that wasn’t replicable through outdoor pursuits or a gym setting was a difficult transition; one that took me a while to navigate. Such focus on cheer and school taught me how far time management, drive, and consistency can take you, but once it was over, I struggled to find movement that I enjoyed. Enter: CrossFit.
In 2015, I landed in the midwest and was persuaded to attend a free CrossFit class. I was immediately taken with the sport; it felt like being an athlete again. I moved around a bit more for the next four years, continuing with CrossFit at various gyms until the one I was at in rural Wisconsin closed.
In the summer of 2020, my husband and I moved to Teton Valley to be closer to his family. After a two-year hiatus from CrossFit, I finally joined Targhee Athletics in 2021. I immediately felt a sense of home and my CrossFit ‘why’ came roaring back. The workouts are engaging, the community is unmatched, and TA helps me daily both physically and mentally.
As a coach, I hope to help athletes of all ability levels find their joy in movement. Fitness looks different depending on personal background, and I enjoy learning about individuals and helping find exercise that works for them long-term.
When I’m not at the gym, I’m often baking, rollerblading, or water skiing (if I can find a boat). I also love canoeing, dancing, and mountain biking. I currently work for a healthcare company in a finance role and spend any other free time I have exploring our corner of the West.

Originally from Minneapolis, MN, I spent a lot of my time finding fun ways to spend time outside, whether it was organized sports, playing off-the-cuff games with friends, or spending a weekend hunting and camping with my Dad. I have always loved being active and found that I was always looking for a good way to keep things engaging and fun. I moved to Teton Valley in 2011, which proved to be a truly life-changing choice, and provided many different and engaging ways to stay active and healthy.
I joined Targhee Athletics in 2015 and immediately loved the atmosphere, the community, and the programming. I was particularly drawn to barbell movements and Olympic Weightlifting. I had struggled with maintaining a fitness regimen throughout my adult life, and was starting to find that I really needed one. I felt like I had finally found what I’d been looking for at Targhee Athletics. I found the consistency I needed at the gym, and I really can’t say enough about how the people and coaches here have positively impacted my life. I’m really proud to now be a part of this team and to be helping others find consistency, overcome challenges, and accomplish their goals.
When I’m not at the gym, I’m likely participating in some solid self-care, riding bikes, working on projects around the house, or playing board games with my wife and stepdaughters. I’m also apt to spend some time with a solid fantasy novel or podcast. In my spare time, I teach 5th Grade in Wilson, WY, where I’ve been teaching for the past 5 years.
I look forward to seeing you in the gym!
